This has been going well.
Taking suggestions again for COTD. You guys have a couple hours before I need to make my decision. Thanks all!

It's not even noon here in the west. Make it "COTA" (comment of the afternoon)

Hey Zac I have a quick question for you re: the COTD format,
There seems to be some feedback regarding the new style of the COTDs which is less than positive. Are you guys just testing something new out, or is there a chance we could switch back to the previous format where the COTD was its own standalone post where people could comment (like, you know $kaycog =).
A few folks are wondering and I'd like to ask directly. Thanks!

Glad you asked, since I was about to post something in Oppo to ask all of you.
It's something new we're trying out. Personally, I think reframing the original post makes sense so that it gives COTD more context. I especially think it works well when we do "best comments from Q&As" COTDs.
I get the thing about the comments getting muddled. That's something that's probably going to get tweaked in the near future. But do you guys really prefer the old way of doing COTD?

I know, having COTD show up at 2 when I lived out west was weird. But come on, we all read Jalopnik on East Coast time, right?

You may still want to go ahead and start a standalone post to ask the community.
FWIW, I understand the intent, and I even agree with it from a "frame the conversation" point of view. The issue is that it makes it impossible to comment / congratulate the 'winner(s).'
And for the Q&A session COTDs. I can't even argue tradition, since 99% of the time, it's the Q&A subject that really is the winner.

What it means is that I can finally get some work done in the late afternoon after all you guys have unplugged yourselves from the Gawker servers and gone drinking.

Yes. I preferred the old way. When I needed context, you always had an embedded link in the story to take you back to the original story. One extra click if I need context, no clicks if I recalled the original story.
Whatever you do, give $kay the first comment. just... because...
